Uniting the best minds from Portugal and the USA to advance cancer research, training, and patient care.
This initiative aims to leverage the strengths of premier academic institutions in Portugal and the USA to advance cancer research, training, and patient care through strategic trans-Atlantic collaborations, thus accelerating progress toward ending cancer.
The Portugal-USA Cancer Initiative (UPIC-Cancer.org), launched in 2023, is a trans-Atlantic collaboration designed to revolutionize cancer research, training, and patient care.
By fostering partnerships between premier institutions in Portugal and the USA, we accelerate scientific discovery and knowledge exchange. Our flagship programs include the Visiting Professor Program, the Summer Cancer Bootcamp, and Collaborative Research and Trainee Sabbaticals. Supported by partners like FLAD, Adopt a Scientist initiative and Amigos de Portugal, we are setting new standards in global oncology collaboration. In the long term, beyond the current USA-PT programs, the consortium will work with the PT government and cancer research organizations such as ASPIC (Portuguese Association for Cancer Research), to strengthen the national strategic plan for cancer research and include education and training of PT faculty and trainees in entrepreneurship and biopharma activities.
